far so good. a little crowded as you approach the dublin interchange. but only about a 15-minute drive right now out of the altamont pass. we'll have more traffic in a bit. in the meantime, back to you guys. >> search teams will be back at work this morning trying to find seven northern california men missing from the sunken fishing boat. many are from the bay area. the boat went down during a sudden storm early sunday morning in mexico's sea of cortez south of san felipe. kristy seifkin is keeping track. search off of the baja, california, coast. kristy, any word? >> reporter: you know, they continued the search all at a yesterday and by the end of the day unfortunately all they found what more debris but the good news is that conditions are still favorable. those waters are calm. conditions are warmth so there is still hope that the missing individuals snail be alismas we followed up with the u.s. coast guard who has continued to search for those individuals we have found out the identity of that one deceased passenger that is 65-year-old leslie yee a former employee of the "san

francisco chronicle." this was his first fishing trip to baja after nearly 37 years with the newspaper. >> he was my best friend. he actually successfully guided me, you know, into being a mature adult while maintaining a best friendship. >> of the seven men still missing, four are pictured here. russell bautista who is from penngrove, donald lee from san ramon, gene liong from dublin and albert mien. we spoke with gene's family and they said he is a survivor and they still have hope that the 69-year-old will return alive. >> me and him were supposed to go together. and now so i offered to go for

father's day and he went. >> reporter: leong said his father earn a purple heart in vietnam. gene loves fishing and was taking this trip to baja for the first time. now, yesterday the u.s. coast guard had sent a helicopter to assist the navy in the search. that plane returned and a second plane was sent from sacramento down to mexico to continue with that search today. and once again, those favorable conditions in terms of 80- degree temperature water, calm waters, still give us hope that the missing individuals may still be arrive. >> thank you, kristy seifkin live in the newsroom. several families here in the bay area have received phone calls with good news from their loved ones saying they made it and they're okay. among the survivors are two men from novato. a wife has been waiting by the telephone. >> he has assured me that the other face are fine but they

are just worried about russ. like we all are, all us wives r i can't imagine being in her position right now. >> that would be russ bautista from penngrove. he is one of the seven men who are still missing this morning. we will continue to monitor the search and keep the latest updates posted at cbssf.com. police are waiting to notify family they say before releasing the identity of the man killed by bart officers. according to the police chief cameras caught a partial view of sunday night's incident. part says the man shot on the civic center platform was apparently drunk and aggressive while carrying a broken bottle and knife. one of two officers initially on the scene what carrying a taser but didn't use it. starting monday, all bart police officers will be required to carry tasers. in oakland, the chief of police plans to announce upcoming changes to his department. anthony batts is going to hold a news conference to discuss a

reorganization to enhance public service. under the budget, the city will rehire 22 of the 80 police officers it laid off last year. law enforcement leaders from across the bay area are gathering this morning hoping to hold two gangs responsible for the shooting death of a baby. anser hassan joins us from east palo alto where the meeting will take place. this is a case that has really involved a lot of people emotionally. we're dealing with a 3-month- old baby. >> reporter: it has involved a lot of people. and more people will be involved. east palo alto police are sending what they are calling a clear and strong message to both the nortenos and serenos gangs that both groups will be responsible for the killing of that 3-month-old back in june. the city says they are making it a top priority to shut them down. today east palo alto police is inviting federal, state and local law enforcement officials to a day long conference. they hope to gather and share

intelligence to come up with a plan to target the groups and help gang members who want to get out. the city has been working for years to target these two groups. but the killing of the 3-month- old izack garcia has prompted the latest operation. the morning of june 5, a gunman from the norteno gang opened fire on the 3-month-old and his parents killing the 3-month- old. he thought that they were members of the opposite gang. and the police arrested a 17- year-old for the murder. jeff liu said last month that both groups will be responsible for this killing. >> police department and the community have spoken out and said that the quote, unquote collateral damage of a 3-month- old baby getting killed because of this back and forth battle between the nortenos ander is rain yoes is totally -- and serenos is totally unacceptable. >> reporter: these groups have been operated for years in the

cooler. highs mainly into the 90s. no 10s to be found and 60s -- no 100s to be found and 60s at the coast. next few days temperatures coming down toward the weekend. trough moving in meaning more low clouds and fog in your direction. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you. los altos hills 280 spinout blocking the left lane so one car involved and not seeing huge delays still obviously very early northbound 280 at alpine road right before that exit. so we'll watch that right now just one lane blocked. so no need for alternates. the rest of the south bay looks great. coming out of downtown san jose light so far this morning northbound 280. still on going roadwork should be wrapping up closer to 6:00. both directions of 880 between 280 and old bayshore highway, again, watch out for various lanes blocked for the next hour.

a jury acquitted the florida mom yesterday of murdering her 2- year-old daughter caylee. however, they foun casey anthony could be a free woman as soon as tomorrow. a jury acquitted her yesterday

of murdering her 2-year-old daughter caylee but she was found guilty for lying to the police. the jury did not speak afterwards. but one alternate national did. >> alternate did. >> defense attorney: i'm ecstatic for her and i want her to be able to grieve and grow and somehow get her life back together. >> that was one of anthony's defense attorneys you just heard from. anthony is going to be sentenced tomorrow. she faces up to four years in prison. but since she has already been in jail for three years, she could walk free. jury selection begins today in the case against baseball legend roger clemens. similar to what we saw go on with barry bonds, he is accused of lying to congress about using steroids during his 2 3- year career. that trial is expected to last four to six weeks. 5:12. san francisco police are on the hunt for a man who stole a very valuable picasso drawing right

still missing from the fishing boat that sank in mexico sunday morning. it's 5:17. let's get you caught up on some of the top stories on this wednesday. 7 northern california men are still missing from that fishing boat that sank in mexico sunday morning. the search resumes this morning. law enforcement leaders will meet to hold two gangs accountable for the shooting death of an infant death in palo alto last month. tomorrow president obama will meet with congress to discuss raising the nation's debt limit. the u.s. will default on its bills on august 2 if they don't raise the debt ceiling. weather around the bay area starting to look cooler at least in spots. the fog and low clouds moving in along the coastline, thick there. watch out for dense fog on highway 1, 280 thick, even patchy fog making its way

inside the bay. mild in th valleys. cooler in the afternoon. 90s, hot inland. 80s elsewhere. 60s and 70s around the bay. coastline 60s and patchy fog. looks like more fog becoming well defined at the beaches here. a little subtropical moisture working in toward the bay area a couple of passing clouds and that's about it. but a slow cooling trend is in effect as high pressure begins to make its way out of town. this area of low pressure and the whole trough going to swing in toward the coastline so cooler weather on the way and that means more low clouds and fog in the coming days. still it will be hot in spots. 90 degrees in san jose today. about 92 morgan hill. about 86 in palo alto. you have 60s at the coastline with the patchy fog. inland valleys still boy it's going to be hot. 97 degrees in brentwood. 96 in livermore. 96 in antioch. so you get get. those temperatures still cooking in areas inland.

causing any delays. speeds okay past the scene but minor slowing there likely some looky-loo traffic because tow crews and chp both on scene now. fog also an issue this morning. lawrence touched on this. so yeah, watch out for foggy conditions on 1 portions of pacifica, daly city pretty foggy as well as the golden gate bridge. check out our camera. this is on the san francisco side of the span right there before you reach the toll plaza. hard to see traffic this morning. instead we have this weird ghostly effect by the street lights out there but yeah, watch out for some low visibility really this morning in north- and southbound 101. i'm waiting to see a headlight or two but we can't see much for this time of the morning and mass transit is on time. bart in fact has 38 trains all on time. ace train off to a great start number one. bart, ace, muni metro and caltrain all on time. remember kcbs, our radio partners, at 740-am and 106.9- fm. that is your traffic and

weather. back to you. >> thank you. a bill that would require gay curriculum in california schools is on the way to the governor right now. democratic state assembly members passed the law yesterday on a party line vote. it would add gay, bisexual and transgender people to the list of groups that must be included in social studies. it also includes various ethnic minorities and disabled people. the law allows school boards though to decide how to implement the lesson plans. governor brown has 12 days to sign or veto that measure. get ready to see your friends up close on facebook today. >> i think we see enough of our friends already but you're going to see them really close. last week the ceo said the company will launch something awesome. rumor has it the website will launch an in-browser video chatting feature powered by skype. cool. tech gurus also speculate could be a streaming music service for an app for apple's ipad. zuckerberg will make the awesome announcement at 10:00

morning. back to you. >> thank you. fears the search continues this morning for -- the search continues this morning for seven missing fishermen in the sunken boat in the baja. it went down early sunday morning in the mexico sea of cortez south of san felipe. kristy seifkin in the newsroom keeping track of the search off the baja, california, coast where one fisherman is known to have died but there is still hope for the others, kristy? >> reporter: definitely especially with the favorable conditions weather-wise. really warm waters, 70 to 80 degrees, calm water, warm conditions overall. and that means that those missing people still could be alive. the identity of the one deceased passenger is confirmed, 6 a-year-old leslie yee a -- 65-year-old leslie yee a former employee of the "san francisco chronicle." this was his first fishing trip to baja after nearly 37 years with the newspaper. >> initially he didn't want to go. but a bunch of his friend from high school, about 12 to 17 of them, all decided to go and

they usually always go every year. and they would constantly bug him about going. and he never just could find the time to do so. but finally now that he is retired from the "chronicle" and he has all this free time for himself, he figured, why not? >> reporter: russell boo tease sta, don lee,. >> he leong, albert mien were very close friends, still missing. russell >> we paddled with our hands. we saw the little icebox, the little ice chest. used that for a paddle. got someone to paddle using hands to paddle all the way to shore. but we're in water over 1 hours. >> now, gary wong and his three

brothers, craig, glen and brian were all avid fishermen. their other brother brian is still missing. yesterday the coast guard sent down a c-130 airplane from sacramento to mexico to assist the navy in their search. that plane returned but another airplane is on the way right now down to mexico to continue that search and as i said, conditions are still favorable. we are hopeful that those missing men may still be alive. >> the ship i know is in 200 feet of water. are they doing anything to get down there? >> reporter: there are report that scuba divers have been enlisted to see if they can find evidence but we haven't had any updates. by the end of the day yesterday, the aerial search and the scuba search had just revealed more debris is thank you, kristy seifkin live in the newsroom. thank you. we'll continue to follow the search and keep the latest

updates on our website, cbssf.com. law enforcement leaders from the bay area are meeting today following the shooting death of a baby. anser hassan joins us live from east palo alto where that meeting will take place. anser, it looks like this is a war against gangs. >> reporter: that's right. and the city of palo alto is being very thorough about this. the tee of east palo alto police department is calling on state, federal and local law enforcements to help them crack down and shut down gang activity in their city. owe today they are holding a day long conference to help police come up with a plan to help shut down these gangs. east palo alto pd has been targeting the norteno and sereno gangs for years. the let's effort was prompted by the june -- the latest evident was prompted by the june 5 shooting of a 3-month- old baby. the family was mistaken for a sereno gang member and allegedly shot by a known norteno gang member.

acting police captain jeff liu says these are very structured groups. so speaking last month he said he wants to send a clear strong message that even if one gang member does wrong, both groups will be held responsible. >> the police department and the community have spoken out and said that the collateral damage of a 3-month-old baby getting killed because of this back and forth battle between the nortenos and serenos is totally unacceptable. >> reporter: over 100 law enforcement officials are invited today as conference members from homeland security, department of justice and the irs. the city wants the irs to look into alleged tax evasion problems by both gang members. so obviously a thorough effort by the city of east palo alto at their conference that will start later on today. >> it sounds like they are using a lot of tools that were already available to them but they have a renewed vigor

behind it? >> reporter: absolutely. it sounds like, you know, in speaking with community members and others that the gang violence is really out of control and i think the killing of a 3-month-old -- how can you mistake a 3-month-old baby as a gang member? these types of activities are really pushing the buttons of a lot of residents saying enough is enough and we need something done. >> thanks. police have identified the man shot and killed by bart officers but they are not telling us yet. they are waiting to contact his family before releasing his name. bart's deputy police chief said cameras did catch a partial rue of sun night's incident but they are not telling us what they saw. investigators say the man was drunk and being aggressive carrying a broken bottle and knife. one of two officers was carrying a taser but used the gun instead or his partner used

90 san jose. temperatures coming down but still hot inland. that's a look at weather. let's check on traffic with elizabeth. >> thank you. and we are going out to oakland because we are getting word of a new accident coming in. sounds hike it's in the northbound lanes of 280 approaching 23rd. getting word that two big ris and truck recovered. they have two lanes blocked. we have not even any slowing. this is just coming in on our chp reports. northbound 880 approaching 23rd avenue. sounds like two lanes are block. so expect some extra heavy traffic through there. better news now for 280 approaching alpine road. this accident was cleared in the los altos hills. tow crew just left. the benicia bridge, traffic looks great on 680. back to you. >> thank you. a new id program in richmond is sparking a debate over access and benefits for i will heel immigrants. the city council approved the program yesterday.

people who have lived in town for 15 days in the last month are eligible for one of these id cards. it would give them access to a number of services from public transportation to libraries. supporters say that people who get these cards can then open bank accounts with them. but critics say the id encourages illegal immigration. 5:39 now. this morning san francisco pd, they are hoping to find the person who swiped a mighty pricy art piece. the thief walked into the weinstein gallery on union square and stole a sketch by pablo picasso off the wall. his 1965 work "tete de femme" also about the size of a piece of paper. very small. but it's worth about $200,000. the gallery says it will and may be difficult to sell. but they hope the suspect didn't destroy it. new information emerging about a missing cyclist from berkeley, loved ones telling the "oakland tribune" that anthony michael martin had been fasting and may have weakened his physical strength and even

impaired his judgment with that fast. he went missing on saturday after riding his bike near the oakland hills. martin was riding a fluorescent fresno and white road bike. anyone with any information, call the berkeley police. oakland radio preacher harold camping is going into rehab after suffering a stroke in june. his daughter confirms he recently moved to a nursing home to continue his recovery. it's not clear the 89-year-old will return to his radio shot. he now predicts the end of the world on october 21. so far he is 0 for 2. 20 minutes before 6:00 now. and if you have questions for the president, we have some information for you. we'll tell you about a town hall he is hosting today on twitter. >> the family knows a lot more than what they're -- than what came out at the trial.

earthquake struck south of a little bit of shaking south of the bay area overnight. an earthquake struck hollister this morning. within five minutes there were two more quakes. they were felt in the central coast area but no damage was done. it looks like a bank of fog rolling through the golden gate but it wasn't fog that blew across phoenix. it was a dust storm. 50 miles wide, 6miles an hour. the visibility was so bad that the faa stopped flights from heading to phoenix. much better in our neck of the woods though. we may have a little fog but a lot of sunshine, right,

lawrence? >> yeah, nothing like that. it looks like temperatures will get more comfortable outside. you can see a couple of patches of fog working their way across san francisco now and also in the distance, some subtropical moisture. high pressure weakening slowly. hot inland. these temperatures still very mild in spots into the 60s some spots inland, patchy fog in the bay into the 50s and dense fog out at the coast. by the afternoon, sunshine, warm to hot inhand, 90s in the warmest reaches of the bay area. hot inland. 60s and 70s in the bay. 80s and 90s towards the santa clara valley. you get the idea anywhere away from the coastline still toasty. sea breeze will cool down the temperatures. but a slow cooling trend in effect over the next couple days. temperatures take a tumble on the weekend. still hooking at 90 and sunny
